Overview

WorkWave is seeking a Security Engineer who loves hacking software and networks to identify vulnerabilities and weaknesses and building solutions and processes to make our products stronger, more resilient and secure from attackers. If you have a development and networking background and are passionate about security, join WorkWave to be a leader in providing engineering, product and operations teams with the security expertise to build secure products.

You’ll be asked to solve complex technical problems, implement next generation security software and service, and define the standards that will protect WorkWave and its customers as we change the way field service companies, large and small, are using technology to deliver better, faster, cheaper service to their customers? You’ll work in a 100% cloud environment and be asked to deliver novel and innovative solutions to help grow our business.

Responsibilities

You’ll play a key role on our Technology Operations team -- specifically, you'll be responsible for:

  • Provide security consultation and guidance on new product, feature and technology decisions
  • Protect our applications and services from network intrusion by implementing Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Identity and Access Management and web application security tools
  • Be a leader in driving internal security and privacy initiatives
  • Drive security discussions through all aspects of system design and implementation, including infrastructure design, development, testing and production operations
  • Define, implement and maintain security and access policies
  • Recommend and implement authx/authz and encryption policies and technologies
  • Investigate and respond to intrusion and security incidents
  • Perform technical security assessments, penetration tests and security audits
  • Develop solutions for continuously monitoring and improving our system uptime

Qualifications

  • B.S. Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years work experience as a Software or Security Engineer
  • Experience with a dynamic programming language (JavaScript) and an interpreted programming language (Python, .NET, Ruby, etc.)
  • Experience with Unix or Windows Scripting (Bash, PowerShell)
  • Practical experience in security engineering, applied cryptography and authentication standards
  • Strong knowledge of internet security issues (e.g. XSS, CSRF, SQL Injection, MitM attacks, etc.)
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and presenting security knowledge and findings to stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong problem solving and communications skills with experience guiding stakeholders to accurate decisions based on analyses

We'd like you to know that "fit" is the most important criteria for us when hiring. We can always find “good techies” but finding “good techies” who share our values is absolutely critical.  For us, and for you!  When folks share values, they look forward to coming to work and spending time with their co-workers in delivering solutions for our customers.  To “fit” at WorkWave you must be:

  • Customer Centric: You have a strong desire to understand and empathize with customers, spending time to truly understand their concerns to ensure that our products and services improve their business performance
  • Intellectually Curious and Passionate: You love figuring out what the problem is and finding a way to fix it. You enjoy coming to work each day and have a positive energy that the organization can see and feel.
  • Empathetic and Respectful: You truly appreciate other’s perspectives. You put yourself in others shoes and go out of your way to ensure that all perspectives are heard and understood before decisions are taken
  • Team Player: You’re willing to jump in and help whenever and wherever needed by the team. Your goal is to find ways to provide value rather than call attention to your individual performance
  • Analytical: You use data as a guide in your decision-making. You’re able to understand what data is needed, to parse that data in ways that provide key insights and summarize it for the team so that it can be used to drive the intended decisions
  • Get Things Done: Once you’ve determined the key elements of the problem, you solve it and figure out how to most effectively put that solution in place. You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves, take responsibility and make things happen as an individual contributor but also know how to drive your team to do the same. Once you start them, you like to finish things, not just “checking the box” but making sure that they get done and done right.
  • Willing to Make Mistakes and Intellectually Honest When You Do: You are not afraid to make mistakes and, when you do, you admit them, learn from them and ensure they don’t get repeated in the future. Placing blame and spending time pointing fingers is not part of your DNA.
  • Quirky.  No, seriously, that's one of our values.
